“Arts in Science Communication” Workshop at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics
The workshop, led by Dorotea Fracchiolla and myself, offered a fresh perspective for scientists to reflect on their own research by emphasizing the importance of curiosity, originality, and critical thinking, and exploring how these concepts can be applied to science research and communication. The goal was not only to enhance the ability to communicate biological concepts in a simple and engaging way but also to remind participants of the beauty of science through artistic expression. The workshop included the use of handcrafted art techniques (watercolors or acrylics, depending on participants’ preferences) to create science-inspired artwork, rather than relying on digital media. Scientists, students, and postdocs from diverse backgrounds participated in the workshop, engaging in both creative and scientific collaboration.
